Customer Reviews

I "discovered" PEC tools of California and was so impressed I bought some of their stuff to put it to the test of daily use.  I am still impressed and I now recommend PEC's premium line of solid squares.

PEC's Solid squares are just that - solid metal, no moving parts, and VERY accurate. I have and use several different sizes of solid squares in order to match the square to the job at hand; the price of these squares permits this luxury!

  • 6 inch long blade.

  • Made from high quality harden tool steel.

  • Has true right angles; both inside and out.

  • Beams and blades are precision ground and hardened.

  • Length of blade is measured from inner edge of beam to the end of the blade.

Big Bang for the Buck

Back in May 2020, I purchased the PEC 6-inch solid square from RobCosman.com for $29.95 plus shipping, and I highly recommend it. I use the square to set up my shop tools including my table saw blade, jointer fence, and miter saw blade. Further, I use it to verify the squareness of my other squares. Why this particular square?
1. Reputation. We can personally check for squareness, but such a method has limited accuracy. Ultimately, we need a trusted reference point for squareness. Perhaps we have to go with a company from a country that has a solid reputation, giving confidence in the manufacturing process, quality checks, and accuracy claims. PEC is American made.
2. “Big bang for the buck” versus non-PEC squares. The PEC’s squareness tolerance is 0.0006”. (To put this in perspective, a typical human hair is 0.0030” thick. So the PEC’s accuracy is within 1/5 of a human hair’s diameter.) A comparable Starrett square—with a 0.0002” tolerance—will set you back $165.
3. “Big bang for the buck” versus other PEC squares. You can do the math for yourself. The cost-per-inch for this square is $4.99, lower than all other PEC solid squares.
