We offer replacement marking gauge cutters without rods for all of our marking gauges.  While you will probably never wear out a marking gauge cutter, it is common to chip or break a cutter through use or by dropping your marking gauge.

Our marking gauge cutters are designed to work with either a Cosmanized or a Rob Cosman marking gauge rod but they may fit any marking gauge rod that attaches the cutter with a 6-32 inch or 4mm threaded screww, but we cannot guarentee that.

All of our cutters come pre-sharpened.  We sharpen these on a CBN abbrasive wheel.

We offer four different sizes of replacement marking gauge cutters without rods.  Each cutter is a different size and has different bevel angles so that you can use the right cutter for the right job.   See below for details:

  • 3/8 inch cutter with rod - 40 degree bevel (Best used for cleaning out mortises and sockets).   Cutter only fits a 6-32 inch threaded screw.

  • 1/2 inch cutter with rod - 25 degree bevel (Best used as a general purpose cutter in soft or hard woods).  Cutter fits both a 6/32 inch threaded screw and a 4 mm threaded screw.

  • 7/16 inch cutter with rod - 20 degree bevel (Best used for marking in soft woods).   Cutter fits a 6/32 inch threaded screw or a 4 mm threaded screw.

  • 5/8 inch cutter with rod - 35 degree bevel (Best use when marking for angled dovetails).  Cutter fits a 6/32 inch threaded screw or a 4 mm threaded screw.

Marking gauge

This (5/&” wheel) is the one piece I needed to build my own panel gauge. I would like to get one of Robs panel gauges, but for now I can build my own for a tenth of the price with scraps I have laying around. Fun weekend project

Project parts, making panel gauge.

I am going to make my own panel gauge. I perfer the wheel over a nail/pin. The wheel will be easier to sharpen, and use. Also Rob always has high quality stuff. It always performs as he says it will.
