IBC is a Canadian company that manufactures premium replacement blades and chipbreaker sets that fit Lie-Nielsen and WoodRiver hand planes. IBC blades are really nice; I use them and I recommend them.
At .140 inches thick, these are one of the thickest and stiffest replacement blades on the market, significantly reducing vibration and chatter thus leading to improved performance. The steel in these is just fantastic. They keep and hold and edge longer than most other replacement blades.
Each blade set comes with chip-breaker, precisely machined to mate to the blade, making the blade and chip-breaker a true matches set.
If used for older Stanley or Record planes then it requires filing open the throat of the plane open for the blade to fit correctly

Purchased 3 IBC Replacement Blade Sets, one each for my WoodRiver #4-1/2, #5-1/5 and #7. The blades and chip breakers did not take a lot of time to prep and sharpen out of the box. I'm not knocking the WoodRiver blades, they have served me well over the past 2 years and they still do, but, the Rob Cosman IBC blades are a big upgrade. They seem to hold an edge longer. Thank you Rob and your team for what you do for my fellow veterans and always find and or manufacturing quality hand tool products and instructional videos.

I bought this replacement blade for my Wood River 5 1/2. Excellent blade. Only minimum work needed to get it extremely sharp.
Literally, all I had to do to get this blade set to the point where it would castrate a mosquito was to lightly prep the back and put a 16,000 grit micro bevel. 60 seconds later, I was cutting the most beautiful shavings!
I was about 1/2 way through with the plane iron and chip breaker that came with my Lie-Nielsen 5 1/2 after 2 1/2 years of sharpening and grinding and wanted a backup and or replacement. The back of the iron polished beautifully and putting a secondary and tertiary bevel was a breeze, and the way it cuts is beyond comparison. End grain on sapele, walnut,and maple come of the plane in beautiful solid ribbons.
This is my third ibc blade. Easy prep excellent results. Fair price fast shipping. These to me are best after market blades I have found. Not experienced and problems, very flat any very little prep is necessary. Buy this if you need an excellent blade.
