One of the most difficult tasks in hand cutting dovetails is accurately transferring the tails and precisely sawing the pins. Rob's improved method of transferring tails to the pin board by offsetting the tailboard by the thickness of the saw kerf takes all the guess work out of where to saw.

Offsetting by the exact thickness can be challenging, but the Shawn Shim helps improve your offset accuracy. The brainchild of one of our Purple Heart Project alumni, we named the shim in honor of him.

Precisely milled to work with our regular dovetail saw, which requires a kerf thickness of .024 inches. The regular Shawn Shim has four different offsets to allow you to tighten or loosen the fit of the dovetails as needed.

CNC milled from solid brass.

3/4 inch x 3/4 inch wide. 1-1/2 inches tall.

Four offset sides: .023, .024, .025, .026 of an inch thickness.

Offset amount engraved on each end of the shim.

Handy Tool for accurate dovetails

No matter what I did I could never get my dovetails (practice) to come out right, but the Shaun shim helped along with the Rob Cosman marking knife with saw tooth attachment. I was able to cut several practice pieces and they came out almost perfect. Still practicing but have gotten much improved. Thanx Rob and Shaun.

Simple tool, amazing results.

Cut my first dovetails today with the Shawn Shim and Robs Dovetail kerf marking knife. An experience better than any dovetails before. Fist time i was able to fit dovetails straight from the saw. And it was a breeze. Easiest set up, marking, and cuts I've ever had. Can't recommend it enough!
