Some grinders create a little side to side movement when using the 6 or 8 inch CBN wheel due to seating problems against the shaft shoulder near the motor housing, or unequal pressure from the shaft nut. This movement can interfere with the accuracy of sharpening when using our 6 or 8 inch CBN wheels. About 20% of our customers experience this issue. If you experience this problem, these self-aligning Spherical Washers typically fix the problem.

The Spherical Washers act as a ball and socket to compensate for slight misalignment and to eliminate undue stress from the shaft nut. The hole size on this ball and socket set is slightly larger for efficient equalizing action. Please see photos for proper mounting.

Sold as a set only with the ball and socket set and flat washer. This three piece set is for one either 6” or 8" CBN Wheel so if buying two CBN wheels you will need two of these sets.

These washers are fine...

This set is all it should be. Minus one star because the item description gives "for 8 inch wheels" as the only info about dimensions. I had to gamble that this meant 5/8" ID. The description needs to give all the dimensions and/or there should be a dimensioned drawing in the illustrations.

On a side note, these spherical washer sets are usually used on the nut side of the wheel, with machined precision flat washers on the shaft side (because the shaft shoulder nearly always runs true). Precision flat washers are also hard to find and if this site offered them I would have bought one to go with the spherical washer set.

I got an 8-in CBN wheel that was thinner than the wheels that came on my grinder, I popped the spacers on, and it works great now.
